Pharmacy in Punta Cana: what a Crystal Garden owner can find inside Cap Cana, and when to drive out

Published October 30, 2026 8 min read

Most pharmacy errands from Crystal Garden never need to leave Cap Cana: the community's own business directory lists a pharmacy in its Ciudad Las Canas commercial centre, open every day from 10 AM to 8 PM. The harder question is what to do outside those ten hours. This guide maps the counters on the road out of Cap Cana, measured from Crystal Garden's own location, lines their hours up as a plan for the day, the week and the holiday calendar, and ends with the CDC's advice on packing and storing medicine for a long stay.

Is there a pharmacy inside Cap Cana?

Yes. Cap Cana publishes a directory of the shops and services inside the community, and its September 2026 version lists one pharmacy, in the Ciudad Las Canas commercial centre, open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM. The same directory places a skin clinic and a health spa at the Fishing Lodge, which are worth knowing about but are not where you fill a prescription. This page does not name the pharmacy or print its number, because a directory entry changes faster than a guide does; look it up on the community's own pages when you arrive.

One practical warning. We searched open map data for the part of Cap Cana around Crystal Garden and found no pharmacy mapped there at all, so a phone's map app may send you miles away when there is a counter inside the gates. Crystal Garden plans 196 residences beside the Las Iguanas course with a concierge lobby, and once it opens, the front desk is a natural place to ask whether the listing is still current.

Which pharmacies are on the road out of Cap Cana?

Leaving Cap Cana, the Carretera Juanillo runs north to meet the Bulevar Turístico at Blue Mall, and that corner is where the later-opening choices begin. One national pharmacy chain's own branch pages, read in October 2026, list three branches along this side of Punta Cana. We measured each on an open routing engine from Crystal Garden's coordinates:

  1. Blue Mall, at the Carretera Juanillo corner: about 7 miles by road, open 8 AM to 11 PM.
  2. Inside a large store on the Bulevar Turístico del Este: about 10 miles by road, open 8 AM to 9 PM Monday to Saturday, and 9 AM to 3 PM on Sundays and public holidays.
  3. Downtown Mall, on Avenida Barceló: about 13 miles by road, roughly 30 minutes from Crystal Garden, open 8 AM to 11 PM.

Those are road distances, not drive times, and other chains and independent pharmacies trade along the same roads; this page uses one chain only because it publishes its hours branch by branch. Punta Cana International is about 20 minutes from Crystal Garden, so a first refill can fit into the airport run.

Which counter is open at which hour?

Set the published hours side by side and the day falls into four bands. It is a plan worth pinning inside the residence:

These bands come from hours published in September and October 2026, and hours move. Check before you set off, above all in the evening.

What changes on Sundays and public holidays?

The Cap Cana pharmacy's listing gives the same hours every day, and the Blue Mall and Downtown Mall branches list theirs without a weekday exception. The branch inside the store on the Bulevar Turístico del Este is the one that changes: on Sundays and public holidays it opens only from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Holidays catch visitors out because of the way they move. The Dominican Republic keeps 12 national public holidays in 2026 under Law 139-97, and that law shifts many of them: a holiday falling on a Tuesday or Wednesday is observed on the Monday before, and one on a Thursday or Friday on the Monday after, while dates such as 1 January, 27 February and Christmas Day stay put. So a Monday can be a holiday, with holiday hours. The Ministry of Labour publishes each year's calendar; check it when you plan a stay and stock up before a long weekend.

How should you plan medicine for a long stay?

Crystal Garden is due in 2027, and an owner there is more likely to stay for weeks than for days, which turns the pharmacy question from where to buy into what to bring. The CDC's guidance on travelling abroad with medicine sets it out in a few steps. Pack enough of every prescription and over-the-counter medicine for the whole stay, plus extra in case of delays, and carry it in your hand luggage rather than a checked bag. Keep each one in its original labelled container, showing your name, your prescriber, the generic and brand names and the exact dose, and travel with copies of your prescriptions, leaving another set with someone at home.

For a stay longer than 30 days, the CDC suggests talking to your prescriber before you go, because some insurers pay for only a 30-day supply at a time. Dominican customs, for its part, allows medicines for personal use and asks anyone carrying controlled or psychotropic medicines to show the prescription that justifies them. With that paperwork in order, the counter inside Cap Cana becomes a top-up rather than a lifeline.

Where should medicine be kept in a Caribbean residence?

The same CDC page makes a point that weighs more in Punta Cana than at home: extreme temperatures can reduce the effectiveness of many medicines, so find out how each one should be stored and whether it needs a refrigerator. In practice that means a cool cupboard indoors rather than a car's glove box or a sunny terrace, and a shelf in the fridge for anything that must stay cold.

If the residence will be let between your visits, think about what you leave behind. Lock personal prescriptions away and leave guests a short note instead:

Common questions

Is there a pharmacy in Cap Cana?
Yes. Cap Cana's own business directory, updated September 2026, lists one pharmacy in the Ciudad Las Canas commercial centre, open daily from 10 AM to 8 PM. Open map data does not show it, so check the directory rather than a map app.
Where is a late-opening pharmacy near Cap Cana?
One national chain's branch at Blue Mall, on the corner of the Carretera Juanillo, lists hours of 8 AM to 11 PM and is about 7 miles from Crystal Garden by road. None of the branches listed nearby opens around the clock.
Are pharmacies in Punta Cana open on Sundays?
The Cap Cana pharmacy's listing says daily. One chain's branch inside a store on the Bulevar Turístico del Este cuts its hours to 9 AM to 3 PM on Sundays and public holidays, and under Law 139-97 some holidays move to a Monday.
How much medicine should I bring for a long stay in Punta Cana?
Enough for the whole stay plus extra for delays, in hand luggage and in original labelled containers, the CDC advises. For more than 30 days, speak to your prescriber first: some insurers pay for only a 30-day supply at a time.
Do I need a prescription to bring medicine into the Dominican Republic?
For controlled or psychotropic medicines, yes: customs asks for the prescription that justifies them. Other medicines for personal use are allowed, and the CDC still advises carrying copies of every prescription.
